Beijing, March 28, 2024 - The Beijing Capital Cinema Cultural Complex heralded a new era in cinematic experience with the successful unveiling of its inaugural flying theatre project, “Fly Over China,” in collaboration with Rio-Tech, at the Capital Cinema’s Sub-center site in Tongzhou District.

Capital Cinema, one of China’s premier and oldest cinema chains, continues to pioneer innovative practices in the industry, offering dynamic and engaging experiences to audiences nationwide.

On Thursday, the city sub-centre site of Capital Cinema concludes its trial operation and officially opens to the public, marking a bold stride forward in the dual innovation of content and form for its 87-year-old legacy.

Throughout the event’s three agendas - launch of the first batch of projects, cultural forum, and exhibition tour - Ms. Shi Rui, General Manager of Capital Cinema, provided a detailed introduction to the core ideas behind Capital Cinema’s innovative development and the construction of the Cultural Complex. Zhao Dongbao, Curator of the “Dunhuang MAX: Heroic Epic” exhibition, briefed on the concept of IP space. Ms. Shi Jing, Project Representative of Fly Over China and Deputy General Manager of the Cultural and Tourism Business Division of Qingdao Rio Cultural Tourism Technology Co., Ltd., a Rio Tech subsidiary, highlighted the flying theatre’s features.

“Fly Over China”: A Catalyst for the Integrated Development of Cinema Spaces

As the first flying theatre project introduced in Capital Cinema, Flying Over China is a collaborative effort between Capital Cinema and Rio-Tech. It serves as Rio-Tech’s inaugural flying theatre inside a commercial complex and also a demonstration in collaboration with Capital Cinema to blend a theme park with a commercial complex.

The flying theatre integrates cutting-edge entertainment technologies, including multi-degree motion benches, giant sphere screen projection and simulation stunts, dedicating to bringing audiences an immersive flying experience. Utilizing the motion and environmental effects enables the riders to be completely immersed in the movie with the full sensation of gliding and flying.

And an 18-meter giant sphere screen enhances the sense of immersion, offering riders a panoramic view of the landscape from a first-person perspective. The two-floor flying platform can accommodate up to 32 riders. 

With the advantage of “simulating a large space with a small venue,” it aims to provide diverse experiences and solutions to cinema scenarios, thereby creating a holistic cultural entertainment consumption space.

The city sub-centre site of Capital Cinema now offers six interactive shows per day, inviting riders to embark on a fascinating journey of discovery!
